Thanksgiving is upon us and whether you are prepping for a big meal, gathering for a “Friendsgiving” or looking forward to a few days to relax and watch football there are plenty of school and community events in the offing.
Salisbury Township schools and offices will be closed Nov. 26 through Dec. 1. Students and teachers will return to school refreshed and ready Dec. 2.
Mark your calendars for the Salisbury High School winter concert 7 p.m. Dec. 4 and T-shirt day at Salisbury Elementary School Dec. 5.
The SES evening PTO holiday shop will be held 6-8 p.m. Dec. 5 so you can get a jump on the Christmas shopping.
SHS students will be taking Algebra and Biology Keystone tests Dec. 8-9 and 11-12, respectively. Students not scheduled to take these tests will report to school on a 3-hour delay.
The Salisbury Township community is invited to attend the “Light up the Night” annual tree lighting ceremony 5-7 p.m. Nov. 29 at Franko Park. You won’t want to miss this fun event featuring live reindeer, pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus, festive music, hotdogs, toasted s’mores, hot chocolate and Vallos Bakery cookies as well as a chance to meet members of the Salisbury Police Department and Eastern and Western Salisbury fire departments.
If you are looking for something to keep the kids busy, Home Depot offers kids make-and-take workshops. The Nov. 29 workshop features a holiday teddy bear ornament and the Dec. 6 project will be a holiday hot cocoa mug. Preregistration is required at homedepot.com/c/kids-workshop.
The Emmaus Public Library will host a holiday book sale 5:30-7:30 p.m. Dec. 5. Lots of books, puzzles, movies and CDs will be on sale as well as hot cocoa and cookies.
The township recycling drop off sites are still open with limited days throughout the month of December. On Nov. 27, the Devonshire site will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. The site will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 29.
During the month of December the sites will be open Saturdays only and weeks of operation will alternate with each site. The Franko site will be open 10 p.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 6.
I will end with an extra dose of holiday humor.
