North Catasauqua: Borough hall closed for holiday

The North Catasauqua Borough Office will be closed Nov. 26-28 for the Thanksgiving holiday. The office will reopen Dec. 1.

Cheer on the Catasauqua High School football team at this year’s 100th-year Turkey Day game Nov. 27 against Northampton Area High School. The annual football game rivalry will be held at Alumni Field on Pine Street in Catasauqua with a 10 a.m. kickoff.

Parishioners and visitors of St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 1229 Third St., should be aware of new safety procedures going into effect. Starting Nov. 29 and 30, the entrance doors to the church will be locked after Mass begins for the safety and security of all those in attendance.

Plan accordingly to be sure you are in church before Father processes to begin Mass.

Pyramid Health Care, a residential treatment facility for women in Catasauqua, is in need of coats and jackets. Please help by donating slightly used women’s coats and jackets over the next two weekends at either St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 1229 Third St., or St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 122 Union St., Catasauqua, for ladies in need of warmth this winter.

Bins will be at the doors of both churches this week, and coats can be dropped off on the weekends of Nov. 29-30.

The annual North Catasauqua small Town USA Christmas tree lighting is set for 6 p.m. Nov. 30 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St. The rain date is Dec. 1.

Have your pictures taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus. There will be light refreshments and festive holiday carols sung by Catasauqua Community Choir.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a canned good/non-perishable food item for a local food bank.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church will hold its Christmas cash bingo Dec. 7 in the parish center. The doors and kitchen open 11:30 a.m., with bingo beginning 1 p.m.

Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua, 210 Pine St., will hold its monthly food drive 10 a.m.-noon Dec. 12 in the church parking lot. Nonperishable food items will be accepted to benefit Catasauqua Area Food Bank.

The Catasauqua High School music department asks the public to join them in National Wreaths Across America Dec. 13. Help the band honor local heroes and sponsor a wreath to be placed on a veteran’s grave at Cedar Hill Memorial Park.

Santa will be visiting Dec. 14. As most are familiar with Operation Secret Santa, there is a change this year — Santa has asked the fire department to host a visit from him at the fire station, 90 Bridge St., Catasauqua.

This event is for residents of both North Catasauqua and Catasauqua. There will be activities, cookies, hot chocolate, candy canes and more. Visit with Santa anytime between 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Presents, provided by parents/guardians, will be given to each participant’s child. Even if you don’t provide a present, you may come enjoy the festivities and take photos with Santa.

No presents will be accepted the day of the event. All presents can be dropped off 6-8 p.m. Dec. 1, 3, 10 and 12 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 6 at the fire station.

The event is hosted by the North Catasauqua and Catasauqua fire departments.

Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua’s next free community lunch is set for 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Dec. 15.

The church is also accepting donations for the Roughie Pantry. The pantry is set up to “love our school-aged neighbors.” The pantry is currently accepting shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, body wash, tampons, sanitary napkins, etc.

North Catasauqua Police Department is collecting new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots. The donation box can be found at borough hall, which is normally open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Mondays-Fridays.

If you’d like to make a donation after hours, you can reach an officer at 610-437-5252.

Toys will also be collected during the tree lighting.

Suburban North Family YMCA encourages residents to give the gift of health and wellness this holiday season with River Crossing YMCA gift certificates. Stop by the welcome center of the YMCA, 880 Walnut St., during regular business hours.

Consider donating to Catasauqua Community Food Bank, 527 Front St. The food bank is in need of pasta, cereal, soup, rice, stuffing, instant potatoes, granola bars and peanut butter crackers. Donations may be dropped off during open hours — 3-4 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

Monetary donations are also accepted. Any donations or checks to the food bank must be written to Catasauqua Community Partnership or CCPI, due to banking regulations.

Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St., Catasauqua, is seeking donations for the church food pantry. Items that are especially in need include individual nonperishable meals such as Dinty Moore, cups of soup, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, crackers, individual servings of fruit that don’t need refrigeration, fruit boxes and men’s and women’s personal care items such as toilet paper, shampoo, body wash, toothbrushes, toothpaste and deodorant.
