NASD OKs cashless ticket sales

Northampton Area School District has approved the implementation of cashless ticket sales for sports events.

The NASD Board of Education voted unanimously 9-0 at the meeting Nov. 10 to approve HomeTown Ticketing as a second option to sell tickets for sports events and approve the implementation of HomeTown Ticketing to begin to have digital ticket sales.

Before the vote, school Director Joshua Harris asked, concerning digital ticketing, “Is that going to benefit us (NASD)?”

“We have a lot of people who come to our events who do not have cash,” NASD Superintendent of Schools Joseph S. Kovalchik replied.

“We are going to keep one or two ticket stations,” Kovalchik added. “Gradually, we’re going all-electronic. In a year out. We’ll save some money because we won’t have to pay as many people to do that.”

The HomeTown Ticketing website states the company provides digital ticket sales to 5,442 high schools, 9,261 kindergarten through eighth grade, 452 colleges and universities and 85 athletic conferences.

HomeTown helps sell online tickets for athletics, theater, music, arts and activity programs nationwide, according to the company’s website. HomeTown began in 2016 in Columbus, Ohio, its website states.

HomeTown partners with payment processors for payment processing and transaction management, states the company website.

Among fees charged by HomeTown Ticketing, according to the company’s website, include the following.

Transaction fee: $0.30 per transaction

Transaction volume fee: up to 2.9% of total transaction value

HomeTown fees for general admission and reserved seat ticket: $1 per ticket

HomeTown cites its advantages as speeding up entry, reducing stress and providing efficiency at events. HomeTown states it can help manage revenue, determine attendance and scan tickets at the gate.

With the HomeTown mobile app, students and fans can purchase tickets from their phones. HomeTown states it can maximize a school’s earnings, with flexible and mobile-friendly payment options, advanced and automated financial reporting, tracking of sales and attendance in real time and quick access to ticketing revenue.

HomeTown offers online fundraising.
