Janet Mae Hansen

of Schnecksville

Janet Mae Fischl Hansen, 88, of Schnecksville, died Nov. 17, 2025, at her home. She was born in Allentown, the daughter of the late Herman Fischl and Ida (Muick) Fischl. She was predeceased last year by her loving husband of 66 years, William “Bill” Hansen.

She worked at Bell Telephone Company in Allentown for five years. She sang with an a cappella group associated with the William Allen High School Chorale and served as a tutor, mentor and translator for incoming German-speaking students. She graduated with honors from William Allen High School with the Class of 1955 and was awarded a scholarship to attend Miami University of Ohio to study journalism.

She was a very active member of the former bilingual St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church on Ridge Avenue in Allentown. She was a member of the Luther League, then the Altar Circle, the Algemeiner and sang soprano with the German and English Choirs. She also served as the secretary and treasurer of the church council.

She enjoyed reading, the daily crossword, Jeopardy, bowling and traveling with her husband. A proud supporter of Parkland athletics, she loved watching sports and was a diehard Philadelphia Phillies fan. She attended horse shows and was an avid Triple Crown enthusiast.

She is survived by children, Glenn S. (Deborah), of Iowa, Cheryl L. Bastian, of Schnecksville, Gail Maureen, of Washington, D.C., Eric A. (Alicia), of Florida; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ella I. (Fischl) Reinert.
