State budget pass eases worries
With a relieved sigh, Superintendent Dr. Jack Silva had good news for the school board Nov. 17. The state budget has been passed and signed, and all local representatives voted in favor of the budget. School districts are finally in the clear to receive their state funding.
Dr. Karen Beck Pooley said Northampton Community College reported enrollment has increased 5 percent over last year and the school is developing a fiber optic splicing certificate course.
Vo-Tech liaison Emily Schenkel reported the renovations on the main and Southside campuses are proceeding on schedule and as expected.
Dr. Kim Shively reported Colonial Intermediate Unit 20s service agreements with participating districts have been signed. The IU20 is also relieved that the state budget has been signed, and they are anticipating financial stability. IU20 will also be hosting a disability resource fair. Title 1 and Title 2 agreement contracts were signed providing services to nonpublic school students.
Dr. Silagh White said Pennsylvania School Board Association PSBA educators is planning a symposium regarding the use of AI, its impact and implementation on education.
Board President Michael Faccinetto said all teacher innovation grants were approved.
The next meeting, with a postelection reorganization, is scheduled for Dec. 1.
