Fall book sale Nov. 21-22

The Friends of the Lower Macungie Library will hold its fall book sale 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 21-22 in the Lower Macungie Library. Friends’ Preview Night is 5-7:30 p.m. Nov. 20. Join the Friends that night and purchase books before the weekend crowds. There will be a bag sale 2:30-4 p.m. Nov. 22. All proceeds from the sale benefit the library.

The 15th annual Craft/Vendor Fair will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Lower Macungie Community Center, 3450 Brookside Road. Over 120 crafters and vendors will be participating. Food is available 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Concordia Lutheran Church will hold a Thanksgiving Eve service 7 p.m. Nov. 26 with a pie festival immediately following.

The 97th Annual Sheeprock Trek and Thanksgiving Sunrise Service will leave promptly 5:45 a.m. Nov. 27 (yes, Thanksgiving morning) from the Macungie Volunteer Fire Department, 31 S. Walnut St. Macungie Boy Scout Troop 71 will light the way up Macungie Mountain where there will be a brief Thanksgiving sunrise service. Hot chocolate and doughnuts will be served at the end of the hike. The event is coordinated by the Macungie Historical Society. Hikers should be prepared with flashlights, gloves, and hiking boots. As a reminder, no smoking is permitted on the hike or during the service. In the event of inclement weather, the sunrise service will be held at the Macungie Volunteer Fire Department starting 5:45 a.m. For more information, call the Macungie Historical Society at 610-965-0372.

The Lower Macungie Tree Lighting Celebration will be held 6-8 p.m. Dec. 5 at the community center. The tree lighting will take place 7:30 p.m. There will be live music, kids’ crafts, photo opportunities, a visit with Santa and food trucks. Lower Macungie Fire Department is partnering with the township to facilitate this event.

The Lower Macungie Fire Department will hold its annual Santa Run in Alburtis and Lower Macungie Township Dec. 13 starting 1 p.m. The rain date is Dec. 14. There will be multiple routes. Routes and estimated times will be posted; check www.firestation30.org or Facebook for updates.

The Lower Macungie Historical Society will hold a holiday open house at the log house at the Wescosville Recreation Center 3-5 p.m. Dec. 14. Luminaria will light the pathway. There will be a fire in the hearth, homemade cookies, tours and a visit from the Belsnickel. The museum will be closed that day.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon Dec. 2 for lunch and entertainment by singer Lori Woodward. The Christmas meeting and dinner will be at Brookside Country Club Dec. 16.

Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon Dec. 4 for a potluck lunch in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall at Macungie Memorial Park. New members are welcome. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.

The Alburtis Seniors will meet noon Dec. 17 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. There will be a potluck buffet lunch followed by a meeting and bingo. There is a small charge. Bring a covered dish. For more information, call Doris at 610-966-3653.

The board of commissioners and staff are holding the 20th annual Troop Support Program to collect donated items to send to township residents in the armed services who won’t be home for the holidays. To register a loved one in the holiday program, call 610-966-6924 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations of food, toiletry items, batteries, magazines and more will be accepted at the community center during that same time through Nov. 26. A list of acceptable donations is available at the community center.

The community center is also collecting children’s new pajamas and books during the fall and holiday season. Items will be donated to Lehigh County Children and Youth Services. Collection bins are located in the lobby through Dec. 19.

Lower Macungie Township offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.

Open gym is available at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Lower Macungie Township offers many programs for adults and children. For more information, go to www.lowermac.com/recreation/activities-programs. Adult classes include yoga, Zumba, Pilates, martial arts and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, martial arts, golf, and tot sports.

The community center is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Yard waste center hours for November are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Hours for December are noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Curbside leaf collection continues through Nov. 26. Leaves should be at the curb before 7 a.m. Mondays.

Lower Macungie Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The library will be closed Nov. 27, 28 and 29 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Craftastic Kids: Turkey Time! for grades K-5 will be offered 6-7 p.m. Nov. 20. On Dec. 17 they will meet for Nutcracker Toy Soldier.

LML Afternoon Book Club will meet 1-2:30 p.m. Nov. 20 to discuss “All The Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr. The book for Dec. 11 is “The Wishing Game” by Meg Shaffer.

Creation Station will meet 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Nov. 24 and Dec. 8 and 10-11 a.m. Jan. 5, 2026.

Dungeons and Dragons for grades 6-12 will meet 4-5:30 p.m. Nov. 24 and Dec. 8. The librarian Dungeon Master will guide the adventure. Pizza and snacks will be available.

Chit Chat & Craft Adult Craft Night will meet 6-7:45 p.m. Nov. 25 for creating falling leaves and Dec. 2 for silhouette portraits.

There will be Sensory Coloring and Crafting for Adults 11 a.m. to noon Nov. 25 and Dec. 23.

Creative Crafts at Alburtis for preschool and grades K-5 will be offered 3:30-4:30 p.m. Nov. 25 and Dec. 2 at the Alburtis Community Center.

There will be a family story time 10-11 a.m. Nov. 26.

Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving will be held 6-7 p.m. Nov. 26 for grades K-5.

Video Game Club for grades 2-6 will be offered 10-11:30 a.m. and 2-3:30 p.m. Dec. 1.

Get In the Game for all ages will be held 6 p.m. Dec. 1.

There will be a Sensory Movie Matinee for adults with disabilities and their caregivers 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 2 and 16 and Jan. 6, 2026.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 to noon Dec. 3 is “Holes” by Louis Sachar. The book for Jan. 7, 2026, will be “My Name is Lucy Barton” by Elizabeth Strout. The book club meets virtually.

There will be a movie matinee showing of “Mary Poppins” 1:30 p.m. Dec. 4 for all ages.

Fun, Friendship and Fiber Arts (for adults) will meet 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 5 and 19. Bring your projects and make friends and share ideas.

There will be a K-Pop Demon Hunters Party for youth and teens 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 6 featuring crafts, trivia, sing-along and costumes (no demons except Jinu).

Books and Beyond will meet 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at Hops Fogelsville to talk about books, music, movies, travel and more. The next meeting is Jan. 12, 2026, to discuss “Lessons” by Ian McEwan.

Book Buddies: We Love Gingerbread! for grades K-5 will meet noon Dec. 13.

Build It! Block Party for ages 2-6 years will meet 10-11 a.m. Dec. 16.

North Pole Innovations: STEM Challenge for grades K-5 will meet 6 p.m. Dec. 18.
