Community Action Lehigh Valley holds its annual meeting 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at casino resort Wind Creek Bethlehem, 77 Wind Creek Blvd., Bethlehem. There is a cost for tickets. The event includes lunch. Visit the website www.communityactionlv.org for details, including ticket information.
The Emmaus Historical Society invites all to the November program where you will hear the story of the first Pennsylvania German Thanksgiving, a story many are not familiar with. The program will be presented by Jason Searock and will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Chestnut Street in Emmaus 7 p.m. Programs are free to the public and members and non-members are welcome. Refreshments will be provided after the program.
Nov. 20
The Goschenhoppen Historians will meet 7:30 p.m. in the meeting hall of the organizational headquarters at Red Men’s Hall, 116 Gravel Pike, Green Lane, for its monthly meeting and a program centered on the Fries Rebellion of 1799. Ed Johnson, president of the Goschenhoppen Historians, will present a talk, followed by a screening of the locally produced “The Fries Rebellion” movie, introduced by SaraJane Williams of the Lower Macungie Township Historical Society. The evening will close with a Q&A with Williams as well as a screening of a behind-the-scenes video about the making of the film.
The Fries Rebellion of 1799 was a local rebellion with national significance. Locally produced and filmed, “The Fries Rebellion” movie is described as an educational docudrama about the tax revolt, led by auctioneer John Fries. The film is told from the point of view of a student who experiences psychic flashbacks to the rebellion while visiting historical sites with her uncle, a history professor. Filming took place at original sites from the rebellion, including the Red Lion Inn in Quakertown and the Sun Inn in Bethlehem. The Lower Macungie Township Historical Society partnered with In the Wee Hours and ubiFire Video Productions to produce the film. Williams wrote the film’s script.
The Emmaus High School orchestra will play a winter concert 7 p.m. at the school, 500 Macungie Ave., Emmaus.
Nov. 25
Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society will host the program “Ralph Berky – Butter Valley Poet and Naturalist” 7 p.m. in the Upper Milford Township municipal building, 5671 Chestnut St. Ralph W. Berky (1890-1977) was known in the Butter Valley area as “The Birdman.” He was an eccentric figure seen walking the valley in a long overcoat with pockets filled with birdseed. Pastor Bob Gerhart will discuss Berky’s unusual life and contributions. The program is free and all are welcome.

The Emmaus High School Symphonic Band will present a winter concert 7 p.m. at the school, 500 Macungie Ave., Emmaus.
Nov. 29
“Light up the Night,” Salisbury Township’s first Christmas tree lighting ceremony is scheduled 5-7 p.m. at Franko Park, 1301 Black River Road. The event will include music performances, a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus and their reindeer and more.
Dec. 5
The Emmaus Public Library will host its annual holiday book sale 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the library, 11 E. Main St., Emmaus. In addition to books, including holiday-themed books for children and holiday cookbooks, sale items will include gently used DVDs, CDs and puzzles. Dec. 6
The Allentown Music Club will present “Sounds of the Season” featuring sacred and secular music 2:30 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, Allentown. This will be a combined program featuring The Young Musicians and the adult clubs. The performers are Siobhan DeRemer, soprano, Steven Molloy, tenor, Darlene Ziegler, piano, Camille Vernaar, flute and Brenda Phillips, guest piano. The program coordinator is Siobhan DeRemer. All are welcome . The program is free and open to the public. Three young musicians will also perform in the program.
