“Rooted” documentary film screenings set

“Rooted,” a 75-minute documentary film about the founding of south side Bethlehem arts organizations, will be screened, 7 p.m. Oct. 13, Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas, ArtsQuest Center, SteelStacks, Bethlehem.

A discussion will be held after the film with its subjects and producers, including Doug Roysdon, Mock Turtle Marionette Theatre; Dave Fry, Godfrey Daniels Folk Music Club; Bridget George, The Bach Choir of Bethlehem and Touchstone Theatre, and Bill George, Touchstone Theatre.

Drawing from more than 200 hours of interviews, new and archival video, music and photos, “Rooted” is about the impact of the south side Bethlehem arts organizations.

In September 2024, filming by Aidan Gilrain McKenna, chief cinematographer for “Rooted,” began with tree-planting ceremonies at seven Bethlehem locations.

The film is narrated by Anisa George, an arborist and daughter of Bill and Bridget George.

The soundtrack includes John Gorka’s song “Branching Out.”

“We’re pleased to honor these magnificent artists’ impact on shaping Bethlehem’s dynamic, vibrant and diverse arts scene, and screening this at SteelStacks is a wonderful opportunity to present their work at this historic site,” said Patrick Brogan, Chief Programming Officer, Manager, ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks.

“Rooted” will also be screened at 2 p.m. Oct. 30, Room 200, Linderman Library, Lehigh University. A panel discussion about the film will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 30.

After its SouthSide Film Festival premiere, “Rooted” was screened at the Newark International Film Festival, where it was nominated for Best Documentary film.

Admission to the Banko and Linderman screenings is free. Donations will be accepted at the door.
