Oct. 11
Parkland High School Class of 1975 will hold its 50th reunion 6:30 p.m. at Madeline’s Restaurant, 1250 Turnstone Drive, Fogelsville. The Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum, 432 W. Walnut St., Allentown, will host a lecture and book signing titled “Allentown Fairgrounds” with author Kelly Ann Butterbaugh 11 a.m. The lecture will explore the fascinating history of the Allentown Fairgrounds.
They will also host a lecture and book signing titled “Pennsylvania Germans in the Virginia Continental Line” with author Gabe Neville 1 p.m. The Pennsylvania Germans played a notable role in the Revolutionary War through their service in the Eighth Virginia Regiment. This lecture will examine the battles they engaged in, the hardships they endured, and the sacrifices they made in pursuit of independence. Particular attention will be given to Colonel Peter Muhlenberg, famously known as the “fighting parson.”
Admission to both lectures is free for Lehigh County Historical Society/Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum members. There is a cost for both lectures for adult non-members and non-member children.
Oct. 16
The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensic Center, 4350 Broadway, Allentown, is hosting its third annual flu shot clinic 2-6 p.m. They will give flu vaccines to children six months and older and adults. They will also offer tours of the Forensic Center. Hot dogs and light refreshments will be served.
Oct. 18
Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 1343 Long Lane Road, Kutztown, will hold a pork and sauerkraut dinner 4-7 p.m. For more information, call 610-756-6210. Take-out is available.
Oct. 19
The Greater Allentown CROP Hunger Walk event day registration begins 1 p.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 140 S. Ott St., Allentown. The walk begins 1:30 p.m. Walkers may choose either a 10K route or a “Golden Mile” route. Walkers who raise $150 or more by Oct. 19 earn a free T-shirt. T-shirts also will be available for purchase on the day of the event. The CROP Hunger Walk is an intergenerational fellowship and service event that benefits those who are struggling in the aftermath of floods, fires, droughts and other disasters throughout the United States and the world. Nov. 1
Morgenland Church, 3120 Weidasville Road, Orefield, will hold its legendary all-you-can-eat spaghetti and meatball dinner 4-7 p.m. The meal includes spaghetti, two huge homemade meatballs, a salad, drink and homemade dessert. Take out is also available. Tickets are available at the door. There is a cost for adults and children 5-12 years old. Children under 4 may enjoy dinner for free. Handicap accessible if needed at end of church, lower level.
