SHS names student of the week
Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.
A. My mother’s name is Francesca; my dad’s name is Joshua and my sister’s name is Sia. I have two dogs: Raya and Sisu and two cats: Lala and Sandi.
Q. As a senior, do you have any specific goals you will pursue this academic year?
A. This year my focus will be applying to colleges and for scholarships. I also would like to maintain my strong academic record and continue to help my community.
Q. What is your favorite class at Salisbury High School? Why?
A. My favorite class at Salisbury High School was definitely Honors American Cultures II with Mr. Barna. His lectures were so engaging and he is such a kind man.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. Last year, I was nominated for and awarded the Widener University High School Leadership Scholarship Award. I am also a member of National Honor Society. I also received the AP Scholars with Distinction for receiving an average score of 3.5 or higher on all AP exams taken and receiving scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?
A. I am a drum major for marching band, a member of the debate team, Model UN, a team captain of Scholastic Scrimmage and an intern at the district’s administration office. I was also recently cast as Nurse Kelly in this year’s production of HARVEY by Mary Chase. I am on the cross-country, swim and track and field teams. I compete in PJAS every year and have achieved first at the state level twice. I also participate in Class Advisory and the Student Government Association. I am also a Girl Scout and play piano in my free time. This is also my last year at Accent School of Dance. These countless activities have kept me active and I have learned to manage my time and take things day by day.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. Definitely last year at debate finals. I had only just become a questioner and there was a lot of pressure to win in front of my whole team. In the end, however, we won!
Q. At this time, what are your plans for the future beyond high school?
A. I hope to attend a 4-year university majoring in international relations and economics.
Q. If you could spend an evening conversing with an historically significant person, whom would you choose? Why?
A. Jackie Kennedy. She is one of America’s renowned public icons and I always admired her diplomacy and grace.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered for being kind and compassionate to those around me.
