Trojans top Eagles
Coming into the game last weekend, there was a lot of hype.
Not only because the Division I quarterback for Nazareth was unable to play, but also because Parkland and Nazareth were both undefeated at 4-0.
Trojans played a strong game on both sides of the ball to stay unbeaten.
Quarterback Finn Coen had one of his best game’s running the offense. He spread the ball around and the Trojans defense allowed a season low in points in the 42-6 victory Friday night at Andrew Leh Stadium.
Parkland jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the second quarter and the two teams went into the locker room with the Trojans ahead 28-6.
“We just want to keep getting better and keep working hard,” said Parkland head coach Tim Moncman. “We played well in all three phases. Coach Ruisch spends a lot of time on special teams, and it’s important to us. And Finn keeps getting better and better.
“He made a mistake tonight and threw an interception, but he bounced back. We’re able to run him a little bit and that keeps defenses honest with defending TJ [Lawrence]. Finn is stepping up and being a leader.”
TJ Lawrence had a pair of touchdowns in the first half, a four-yard run to open the game’s scoring early in the first quarter and then a 27-yard reception from Coen in the second quarter. He added a third score, a 25-yard scamper in the third quarter to put his team on top 35-6.
Coen found Blake Nassry for the game’s final score late in the third quarter.
Liam Spang recorded a three-yard touchdown run in the second and Domenic Martrich collected a blocked punt by Naquon Thomason and returned it 16 yards to pay dirt in the first quarter.
Parkland outgained Nazareth 317-238 with a 228-50 advantage rushing. Coen finished with 66 yards rushing and was 6-for-8 passing for 89 yards and two touchdowns.
Lawrence rushed for 103 yards on 12 carries and two scores and also caught two passes for 37 yards and a score. Nassim Adams made two receptions for 25 yards.
Parkland hosts Allen on Thursday. The Trojans are one of just two unbeaten teams in the conference, joining Easton.
