PHS beats Zephs, falls to BC

In week one of the regular season, the Parkland High School girls volleyball split a pair of Eastern Pennsylvania Conference matches. In week two last week, it was more of the same for the Trojans as they lost the first match in the middle of the week, but responded that with a victory. They concluded the week by going 2-3 at the Wilson West Lawn Tournament.

Last Wednesday night, Parkland was defeated by Bethlehem Catholic in four sets by scores of 23-25, 21-25, 25-22 and 6-25. The Trojans answered two days later with a four-set victory at Whitehall Friday by scores of 25-16, 27-29, 25-10 and 25-11.

In the match with the Golden Hawks, Riley Schilling led the attack with a team-high nine kills. Kasia Burda finished with seven kills. Gabby Nissen recorded three blocks. Josee Kim contributed 26 assists and Chloe Coonradt paced the defense with 25 digs.

In the victory over the Zephyrs, Burda recorded team-bests of 15 kills and five blocks. Schilling tallied 11 kills and Genevieve Supeck added nine kills. Nissen had eight kills. Alex Serina notched 31 assists and three aces, while Coonradt contributed 21 digs.

At the Wilson Tournament, the Trojans began the day with a 2-0 victory over North Catholic, then dropped the next two matches 2-0 to Twin Valley and Central Dauphin, defeated Downingtown East 2-0 before ending the day with a 1-0 loss to Pope John Paul II. Schilling finished the day with 25 kills, Serina had 20 digs and 59 assists.
