Parkland hands Hornets first loss in ‘25

Since the start of the month, the Parkland High School girls volleyball team has played near flawless volleyball. The Trojans continued that positive momentum last week with three more victories, all of the matches in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, including a thrilling, five-set match.

Last Wednesday night, the Trojans defeated Stroudsburg in straight sets at home by scores of 25-5, 25-11, 25-19. They then took down Liberty on Friday in straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-23, 25-19. Tuesday Parkland held off rival Emmaus in five sets, giving the Hornets their first conference loss of the season. Scores were 25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-12.

In the win over the Mountaineers, Riley Schilling paced the attack with a team-high 11 kills.

Kasia Burda finished with six kills and three aces. Chloe Coonradt recorded 10 digs and Alex Serina led the defense with 21 digs.

In the victory against the Hurricanes, Burda tallied 14 kills, Sami Walls contributed seven kills and both Gabby Nissen and MJ Bhanji had six kills, while Schilling totaled five kills.

Coonradt notched 19 digs and three aces, while Zoey Leach added 11 digs and two aces. Serina dished out 33 assists.

In the match with Emmaus, Burda led the attack with 16 kills and also had three blocks. Schilling tallied 13 kills, Walls recorded 12 kills and Nissen added nine. Coonradt totaled 28 digs and four service aces and Josee Kim notched 18 digs and three aces. Serina contributed 46 assists, eight digs and two aces.

Parkland, which is now 8-2 overall and 8-2 in the conference, host Allen Thursday night in EPC action and then travels to Germantown Academy for a nonconference match Saturday afternoon.
