Northwestern girls volleyball gets through hectic schedule

In high school sports, some weeks are busier than others.

For Northwestern Lehigh’s girls volleyball team, last week was a pretty hectic week that saw the Tigers play five times with three nonleague contests and two matches against Colonial League foes.

The result was a 2-2 record for the week that has the Lady Tigers at 8-3-0 overall and 8-1-0 in the Colonial League as the schedule is now past the halfway point of the season.

The Tigers fell to Pottsville (8-4 overall, 6-2 Schuylkill) and Freedom (11-2, 9-2 EPC) on back-to-back days before returning to the win column with a straight-set win over Pen Argyl (6-6, 3-5 Colonial).

Northwestern Lehigh played in the Konkrete Invitational in Northampton where it fell to Pleasant Valley (6-5, 6-5 EPC) before finishing a hectic week with a win over Saucon Valley (5-4, 5-4).

Kayla Schaffer had 18 assists, 15 digs, and three service aces to help the Tigers down Pen Argyl 25-22, 25-20, and 25-11. In the second win of the week, Northwestern downed Saucon Valley Leah Nagle led the way with 14 digs and 11 kills as the Tigers beat the Panthers 25-15, 29-27, and 25-12. Lexi George had 28 digs for Northwestern Lehigh in the match.

Nagle, a senior, and junior Lexi George both had big weeks for the Lady Tigers. Nagle notched 22 kills, 42 digs and three service aces for Northwestern. George had 91 digs in the five games for the Lady Tigers.

Northwestern has another busy week this week with a game at Catasauqua (1-12, 0-9) and then games against Southern Lehigh (9-0, 9-0), Nazareth (6-6, 6-6 EPC), and Blue Mountain (9-3, 4-3 Schuylkill) before playing at Notre Dame of Green Pond (8-2, 8-2).
