EHS volleyball wins tourney
The Emmaus High School girls volleyball team has had a very successful opening month to the 2025 regular season.
The Hornets are undefeated in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference through their first six matches and have won seven of their first eight matches overall.
Second-year head coach Jessica Olang has been pleased with her team.
“Our girls are playing volleyball at a high level,” said Olang. “We’ve been heavily focused on unity, trusting one another and truly playing as a unit. The response has been outstanding — they’ve embraced that mindset, and it’s showing in the way we compete every match.”
One of the highlights in the early part of the season was winning the Easton High School Invitational earlier this month, which features several EPC opponents and other strong teams from across the state.
“The Easton tournament was a great opportunity for us to really work out our offense and perfect some of our plays,” Olang said. “The girls worked hard, communicated well, and really jelled together as a team. Coming out on top definitely boosted our confidence and set a positive tone moving forward.”
Amanda Rivera leads the team with 105 kills. Rosie Landino is not far behind with 87 kills and both Andraya Flowers and Fiona Answini have 62 kills. Alyssa Heffner has facilitated the offense to the tune of 294 assists with Ashley Hoppes adding 51. Defensively, Corrine Slivka has recorded a team-best 122 digs, while Haley Seidel has contributed 80 and Sophia Freemont with 79. Flowers and Landino have 22 and 19 blocks, respectively.
Olang likes a lot of what she’s seen from her team so far this season, with one of the most important qualities is that the Hornets are able to adjust on the fly when they need to.
“One of our biggest strengths has been the team’s ability to stay pliable and make adjustments,” said Olang. “When you’re playing at a high level, the corrections become very detailed and precise and our girls have really embraced that. We’re honing every aspect of our game — from serving and serve-receive to free-ball passing and our offensive systems. Every time we step on the court, it’s another opportunity to refine and perfect our play.”
Emmaus entered this week at 7-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference with three EPC games on this week’s schedule.
