Butz-Stavin earns 1,000th coaching win
Emmaus field hockey head coach Sue Butz-Stavin picked up her 1,100th career win Saturday when the Hornets beat New Jersey’s Oak Knoll Academy, 3-2, in a nonleague game.
Ella Horner scored the Hornets’ first two goals in the game, the first on a penalty shot and the second on an assist from Marissa Gigliotti. Avery Burnett found the back of the cage in the third quarter, assisted by Rylie Povilaitis, for the game-winning goal.
Hornet goal keeper Emily Romano made six saves in the game while Aiko Price stopped three shots.
Emmaus beat Stroudsburg in an East Penn Conference game last Thursday, 10-0, outshooting the Mountaineers 31-1 in the game.
Povilaitis scored three goals in the win, while Burnett, Horner, Sarah Palazzo, Gracie Huffer, Allison Povilaitis, Gigliotti and Alex Jensen had one goal each against Stroudsburg. Horner also assisted on three goals, while Morgann Orobono had two assists and Shrarlise Salano, Addison Povilaitis, Huffer and Madi Lenig had one assist each.
Romano didn’t face a shot in the first half. Price stopped on Mountie shot in the second half.
Emmaus beat Freedom 10-0 last Tuesday.
Burnett had a hat trick against the Patriots. Orobono scored twice in the win, while Palazzo, Gilgiotti, Addison Povilaitis and Lenig had one goal each. Horner assisted on three goals against Freedom. Lenig had two assists. Salano, Gigliotti and Rylie Povilaitis had one assist each.
Emmaus outshot the Patriots 38-0 and had 16 corners to none for Freedom.
The Hornets head into this week at 8-0 overall and 7-0 in EPC games.
