Emmaus Halloween Parade Oct. 18

The Emmaus Board of Health will host its meeting virtually 4 p.m. Sept. 24. Also on that day, the zoning hearing board will meet 6 p.m. in Emmaus Borough Hall, 28 S. Fourth St., Emmaus.
The Emmaus Public Library hosts Books & Barks 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 25. No registration is necessary and the event will provide the opportunity to come and read to the Lehigh Valley Therapy Dogs.
On Sept. 26, the Emmaus Rotary Club will feature speakers Kevin McGowen and Patricia Stein of the Lehigh County Emergency Management and Allentown Health Department during the noon meeting, located at the Tompkins Center of Cedar Crest College.
On Sept. 27, the Emmaus, Lower Macungie and Upper Milford historical societies are hosting a tea in the social hall above the Lower Macungie Township Historical Society at 3120 Cedar Crest Blvd., Emmaus. The regular Emmaus Historical Society museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Programs are held 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at St. John’s Lutheran Church social hall, 501 Chestnut St., Emmaus.
The Emmaus Public Library will feature live music and a lecture during “The Sound of Music Concert and Talk” 1 p.m. Sept. 27. The event honors the 60th anniversary of “The Sound of Music” and the celebration includes live music from pianist Patrick Kerssen and jazz renditions of the songs from the movie. Mark your calendars for 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 2 for Community Heroes Day at the library. Everyone, all ages, can drop by the library to meet the first responder heroes in the community. Try on firefighter gear and see what it is like to sit behind the wheel of a hook and ladder truck from the Emmaus firefighters or Vera Cruz Fire Company. Check out the ambulance and chat with the Emmaus Ambulance Corps. Ask the Emmaus police questions about their jobs and check out their vehicles. And don’t forget to check out a library book on your favorite community heroes. Community Heroes Day takes place in the library parking lot which will close 5:30 p.m. to get ready for the event.
The Emmaus Rotary Club is looking for golfers and sponsors for its annual golf tournament Oct. 6 at Brookside Country Club, Macungie. Shotgun start 12:30 p.m. Each sponsorship and/or donation directly fuels programs that feed, educate and uplift the community.
This is their largest fundraiser of the year; one of their most vital efforts is the food program which provides over 21,000 bags of food each year to food-insecure school-age children in the community. With more than 40% of students in the East Penn area qualifying for free or subsidized meals, the need is urgent and funding is critical. The Teen Writers Group will meet 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Emmaus Public Library. Available to sixth to 12th grade students, this prompt-based writing group will meet in the Margaret Knoll Gardner lecture room.
The Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon Oct. 9 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall at Macungie Memorial Park. Dues for 2026 will be collected; bring both cards. The next meeting will be Nov. 6. New members are welcome. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.
On the afternoon of Oct. 11, the Lehigh Valley Audubon Society will meet 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Emmaus Public Library. They will introduce the birds that appear locally and explain further regarding migratory patterns and intriguing behaviors.
The Emmaus Public Library will kick off spooky celebrations with “Majo no takkyûbin,” an Animé movie released in 1989. The English translation is “Kiki’s Delivery Service.” The movie is rated G and is about a small witch who moves with her talking cat to the big city. The movie is family friendly and will be shown at the library 12:30 p.m. Oct. 18.
Get your viewing spots ready for the Emmaus Halloween Parade 7 p.m. Oct. 18. The rain date is 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19. According to organizers, a great spot to enjoy the Emmaus Halloween Parade with the entire family is along Walnut Street between Macungie Avenue and Ninth Street. Xfinity will be the presenting sponsor for the parade.
The Emmaus Halloween Parade 5K race takes place right before the Halloween parade each year. The race benefits the Emmaus parks system and the Emmaus Halloween parade. Participants are encouraged to run in costume. The race starts 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ninth and Green streets and finishes at Triangle Park. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest times and the best costumes. More information can be found at http://emmaus5k.com.
Beginning Oct. 25, the Emmaus Public Library continues its Halloween celebrations 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a trick or treat event. Children are encouraged to come in costume to get treats.
The next week, the trick or treat festivities continue all day at the library, including a spooky scavenger hunt as well. Scavenger hunt sheets are available at the front desk, prompting participants to search around the library for all six ghosts. Prizes are available upon completion.
