Volunteer Opportunities

Assist with literacy activities in pre-K through third grade by providing individual or small-group support under the guidance of classroom teachers with the Allentown School District Foundation. Minimum age to volunteer is 18. Clearances and attendance at a one hour orientation are required. Hours and days are flexible, but volunteers must be willing to commit to a regular schedule of at least one hour per week. Join a working team environment with Bethlehem Emergency Sheltering Property and Maintenance Team Volunteers. Volunteers should have some working knowledge of mechanics, carpentry, plumbing, electrical or household repair and be committed to approximately 1-2 hours per week. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley, Allentown, has started a new after school mentoring program called STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) Club and with the help of friendly and dedicated community volunteers, kids can continue to grow their curiosity and have fun beyond the classroom 3:30-5 p.m. Thursdays, October through May and beginning in January, 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesdays. Dependable and friendly people are needed to help distribute food to local families and individuals at Grace Community Foundation food bank in Allentown 8:30-11 a.m. on the third and fourth Saturdays each month. Is fall your favorite time of year? Do you love the smell of freshly baked apple pie and cinnamon? Join Historic Bethlehem Museums and Sites for Apple Days. Volunteers are needed for set up (Sept. 18-19) and to assist throughout the weekend (Sept. 20-21), including in the hay bale maze, making scarecrows, serving sweet fall treats, helping in the apple brewery and cleaning up. The Warming Station at River Crossing YMCA, Allentown, will reopen for the season Sept. 30 through April 30, 2026. Volunteers are needed 6:30-9 p.m., seven days a week, to help welcome guests, serve warm meals, distribute supplies and offer compassionate support to those experiencing homelessness.
