Police and employee pension MMOs adopted

Emmaus Borough Council met Sept. 15 to review a small list of agenda items. The meeting began with the call to order, Pledge of Allegiance and an opportunity for personal appeals; however, there were none.

Council approved the minutes from its Sept. 2 meeting and then turned to communications, which included the resignation of Ricki Stringfellow from the Emmaus Library Board, effective Sept. 30.

The borough solicitor did not have a report for the evening.

One of the only notable items of the night was the second reading and adoption of Ordinance No. 1282 in Unfinished Business. The ordinance amends the borough code by removing a residential disabled parking sign in front of 572 Jubilee St. and changing the reserved disabled parking space in front of 902 Evergreen St. into a public disabled parking space.

Mayor Lee Ann Gilbert presented her third quarter report, outlining all the proclamations, ribbon cuttings and borough initiatives.

Committee reports followed, with public works announcing its next meeting for Oct. 13 and health, sanitation and codes was scheduled for Sept. 16. Parks and recreation is set to meet Sept. 18, while the public safety committee provided notes from its Sept. 10 meeting and announced its next session for Oct. 8.

General administration recapped its Sept. 3 discussions and will meet again Sept. 17.

The budget and finance committee presented Resolution 2025-27, which was the borough bill list. The bill list totaled $368,462.25, dating back to the previous meeting date.

Next was the adoption of the police and employee pension Minimum Municipal Obligations, a review of the borough procurement policy and a breakdown of significant revenues and expenses from the first half of September.

The committee’s next meeting is scheduled Oct. 1.

Community relations, planning and development will reconvene Oct. 7.

Boards and commissions updates included a report from the Friends of the 1803 House, which submitted minutes from its August meeting and treasurer’s reports covering June, July and August. The borough manager’s report followed, where Shane Pepe announced he had hired part-time EMT Cheryl Smith.

The evening concluded with nothing in president’s business and no executive session before adjournment.

The next Emmaus Borough Council meeting will be held 6 p.m. Oct. 6 at 28 N. Fourth St., Emmaus.
