LMFD open house Oct. 4

There will be a free document shredding event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Lower Macungie Township parking lot. Residents can bring up to four bags or boxes.
The Lower Macungie Fire Department will hold an open house 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 4 at the fire station at Sauerkraut Lane. There will be information on fire prevention, fire truck tours, state police, souvenir photos, coloring activities, face painting, a moon bounce, Macungie Ambulance, food trucks and more.
The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon Oct. 7 for lunch and games provided by Country Meadows at the community center. There will be a regular meeting noon Dec. 2 and Christmas dinner at Brookside Country Club Dec. 16.
The Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon Oct. 9 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall at Macungie Memorial Park. Dues for 2026 will be collected; bring both cards. The next meeting will be Nov. 6. New members are welcome.

The Alburtis Seniors will meet noon Oct. 15 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. There will be a potluck buffet lunch followed by a meeting and bingo. There is a small charge. Bring a covered dish. For more information, call Doris at 610-966-3653.
Lower Macungie Township will hold the annual Trunk or Treat noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 18 at Quarry Park at 7909 Quarry Road, Macungie. There will be decorated car trunks, candy giveaways, music and games.
The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners and staff are holding the 20th annual Troop Support Program to collect donated items to send to township residents in the armed services who won’t be home for the holidays. To register a loved one in the holiday program, call 610-966-6924 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations of food, toiletry items, batteries, magazines and more will be accepted at the Lower Macungie Community Center 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The last collection day will be Nov. 26. A list of acceptable donations is available at the community center.
The community center will collect children’s new pajamas and books during the fall and holiday season. Items will be donated to Lehigh County Children and Youth Services. Collection bins are located in the lobby through Dec. 19.

Lower Macungie Township offers indoor pickle ball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.
Open gym is available at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.
Lower Macungie Township offers many programs for adults and children. For more information, go to http://www.lowermac.com/recreation/activities-programs/. Adult classes include yoga, Zumba, Pilates, martial arts and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, cricket, tennis, martial arts, golf and tot sports. There are also many youth camps.

Lower Macungie Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The library has partnered with Plant a Row Lehigh to collect fresh produce for Casa Guadalupe in Allentown. Donations are accepted 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Oct. 12 and can be placed in a cooler inside the library.
The library afternoon book club will meet 1-2:30 p.m. Sept. 18 to discuss “The Paris Library” by Janet Skeslien Charles. The book for Oct. 16 is “Educated: A Memoir” by Tara Westover.
Teen Advisory Board for grades 6-12 will meet 4-5:30 p.m. Sept. 18 and Oct. 2.
Eat An Apple Day! for grades K-5 will be held 11 a.m. Sept. 20.
Teen Lounge for grades 6-12 will meet 4-5:30 p.m. Sept. 22, Oct. 16, Nov. 13 and Dec. 11 for a hands-on craft, a free book and snack.
Homeschool Hour for grades K-5 will meet 11 a.m. to noon Sept. 22 and Nov. 10.
There will be sensory coloring and crafting for adults 11 a.m. to noon Sept. 23 and Oct. 28.
A new series Preserving Your Legacy for adults will start with recipes 6 p.m. Sept. 24.
There will be a family story time 10-11 a.m. Sept. 24, Oct. 1, 22 and 29.
Fun, Friendship and Fiber Arts (for adults) will meet 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 26. Bring your projects and make friends and share ideas.
Chit Chat & Craft Adult Craft Night will meet 6-7:45 p.m. Sept. 29 to create a pumpkin wineglass candle holder.
Creation Station will meet 10 a.m. Sept. 29 and 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Oct. 20.
There will be a movie matinee showing of “An Affair to Remember” for adults 1-3 p.m. Sept. 30.
Creative Crafts at Alburtis for preschool and grades K-5 will be offered 3:30-4:30 p.m. Sept. 30 and Oct. 28 at the Alburtis Community Center.
The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 1 is “The Frozen River” by Ariel Lawhon. The book for Nov. 5 is “Lady Tan’s Circle of Women” by Lisa See. The book club meets virtually.
Craftastic Kids: Pumpkin Seed-sational Art! for grades K-5 will be offered 6-7 p.m. Oct. 1.
Dungeons and Dragons for grades 6-12 will meet 4-5:30 p.m. Oct. 6, Nov. 24 and Dec. 8. The librarian Dungeon Master will guide the adventure. Pizza and snacks will be available.
Builders Brigade for grades K-5 will meet 6-7 p.m. Oct. 8.
There will be a Yoga story time for ages 3 and up 10 a.m. Oct. 8.
Art Adventures: Autumn Trees for grades K-5 will be offered 6-7 p.m. Oct. 9.

A recurring youth program for grades K-5 featuring beloved book buddies will meet 6 p.m. Oct. 22 to celebrate “Stellaluna” with a story and STEM paper bat rocket.
There will be a sensory movie matinee for adults with disabilities and their caregivers 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 21.
Friends of the Lower Macungie Library will be accepting book donations 1-4 p.m. Oct. 11, 18 and 25 at the Friends shed in the parking lot.

Yard waste center hours through Oct. 31 are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.
Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings takes place the same day as trash collection through Sept. 26. Leaf collection begins Oct. 13 and continues through Nov. 26. Leaves should be at the curb before 7 a.m. Mondays.
