James and Dolley Madison Tea Party Sept. 27

The Lower Macungie Township Historical Society, in collaboration with the Emmaus and Upper Milford historical societies, is hosting a James and Dolley Madison Tea Party at the Bartholomew Center museum 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sept. 27. Grace Lutheran Church in Macungie will hold a pancake breakfast fundraiser to benefit The Kindness Project 8-11 a.m. Sept. 6. The Kindness Project provides free support to foster families in Eastern Pennsylvania. For more information, call 610-966-3325.

Lower Lehigh AARP will not meet in August. Their next meeting will be noon Sept. 4 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall at Macungie Memorial Park, 50 Poplar St. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.

The Alburtis Seniors will meet noon Sept. 17 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. There will be a potluck buffet lunch followed by a meeting and bingo. There is a small charge. Bring a covered dish. For more information, call Doris at 610-966-3653.

Lower Macungie Pool hours are noon to 7 p.m. through Aug. 24. The pool will be closed Aug. 25-29 due to staffing issues. The pool will be open noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 30-Sept. 1. Sept. 1 is the last day of the pool season.

The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners and staff are holding the 20th annual Troop Support Program to collect donated items to send to township residents in the armed services who won’t be home for the holidays. To register a loved one in the holiday program, call 610-966-6924 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday Donations of food, toiletry items, batteries, magazines and more will be accepted at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday Sept. 2 to Nov. 26. A list of acceptable donations is available at the community center.

The community center will also collect children’s new pajamas and books during the fall and holiday season. Items will be donated to Lehigh County Children and Youth Services. Collection bins are located in the lobby Sept. 2 to Dec. 19.

Lower Macungie Township offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.

Open gym is available at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Adult classes include yoga, Zumba, Pilates, martial arts and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, cricket, tennis, martial arts, golf and tot sports. There are also many youth camps.

Lower Macungie Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The library will be closed Aug. 30 and Sept. 1 for Labor Day.

The library has partnered with Plant a Row - Lehigh Valley to collect fresh produce for Casa Guadalupe in Allentown. Donations are accepted 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Oct. 12 and can be placed in a cooler inside the library.

Back to School Bingo for grades K-5 will be held 6-7 p.m. Aug. 21.

There will be Sensory Coloring and Crafting for Adults 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 26 and Sept. 23.

There will be a Sensory Movie Matinee for adults with disabilities and their caregivers 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 2 and 16.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book will meet virtually 10:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 3; the book is “The Women” by Kristin Hannah. The book for Oct. 1 is “The Frozen River” by Ariel Lawhon.

Love Your Grandparents Day! for grades K-5 will meet 6-7 p.m. Sept. 3 for a story and craft.

Get in the Game for youth, teen and adults will meet 6-7:45 p.m. Sept. 4.

Build It! Block Party for ages 2-6 years will meet 10-11 a.m. Sept. 4 and Oct. 17.

A recurring youth program for grades K-5 featuring beloved book buddies will meet 11 a.m. Sept. 6 to celebrate Marc Brown’s “Arthur” with a story and craft.

SAT Prep for Teens will be offered 4-7 p.m. Sept. 8. Teens can practice with a mock SAT test and receive results and feedback. Registration is required.

Books and Beyond will meet 6:30-7:45 p.m. Sept. 8 at the library to discuss “The Wager” by David Grann. The next meeting will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 13.

There will a Sensory Game Day for adults with disabilities and their caregivers 11 a.m. to noon Sept. 9 and Oct. 14.

Builders Brigade for grades K-5 will meet 6-7 p.m. Sept. 10 and Oct. 8.

There will be a screening and discussion of “Fries Rebellion” 6:30-7:45 p.m. Sept. 10.

There will be a Golden Girls Celebration 6-7:45 p.m. Sept. 11. Dress in 1980s attire or as your favorite Golden Girls character.

Fun, Friendship and Fiber Arts (for adults) will meet 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 12 and 26. Bring your projects and make friends and share ideas.

A Final Farewell to Downton Abbey will be held 1-3 p.m. Sept. 13. There will be parlor games and light refreshments as well as Dowager Countess attire judging.

Dungeons and Dragons for grades 6-12 will meet 4-5:30 p.m. Sept. 15, Oct. 6, Nov. 24 and Dec. 8. The librarian Dungeon Master will guide the adventure. Pizza and snacks will be available.

Creation Station will meet 6 p.m. Sept. 15 and 10 a.m. Sept. 29.

There will be a Family Storytime 10-11 a.m. Sept. 17.

The library afternoon book club will meet 1-2:30 p.m. Sept. 18 to discuss “The Paris Library” by Janet Skeslien Charles. The book for Oct. 16 is “Educated: A Memoir” by Tara Westover.

Friends of the Lower Macungie Library will accept book donations 1-4 p.m. Oct. 11, 18 and 25 at the “Friends Shed” in the library parking lot.

Yard waste center hours through Oct. 31 are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings takes place the same day as trash collection. Yard waste collection is every other week Sept. 1 and 15.
