Board hears center updates
Brian Carl, township manager, began a discussion on the progress on the community center and the Community Center Advisory Committee at the Weisenberg Board of Supervisors meeting, Aug. 11.
He stated community center change order number two has some additions and deductions for various items.
“One, we enlarged the main section of the community center by 890 square feet, which would be like the tan colored portion where the offices and pickleball are. We reduced the size of the tuff area by 15 feet in length and that ended in a net zero cost difference,” Carl said.
He said adding a transom window above the main entrance of the building to let a little bit more light in the building, added $2,470; putting pressure treated tongue and groove ceiling on the front porch added $1,628 and adding two roll up shutter doors in the kitchen was $10,036.
“We had a couple deducts, one we lowered the height of the roof in the office area, we saved $4,246 on that. We eliminated the kitchen and breakroom cabinetry and bathroom countertops for $7,050; I’ll do that work. So the cove base from lobby and public meeting room was $315 and the concrete splash blocks for the down spouts were $375 because we are doing seepage pits for stormwater,” he stated. “So the change order ends up being an increase of $2,148.”
He added the board will get change order three at a later date as the items for the camera system and the security system are still being ironed out because they could get bumped into the card access versus having different things going on.
After further discussion, a motion was approved for the community center change order number two.
Carl reported the Weisenberg Community Center Advisory Committee just had a meeting right before the board of supervisors meeting.
“We did pick our colors for the building. The white stone siding on the office and general portion, the burgundy barn red for the tuff area and charcoal roof. We will have to pick a stone color, that’s actually being donated by our residence, I will work with them on getting some samples,” he stated. “The windows, corners and garage doors will be white. We’re going to put some white trim on the red barn portion and then also work on some hex signs. If you are OK with that color scheme I will send them off so they can start ordering the colors and we will go with that, otherwise everything is moving along.”
The board approved the color scheme at the meeting.
Carl stated a bunch of people came tonight to talk about some of the county programs for seniors and broke up into subcommittees for things that people are interested in doing.
“They’re going to be working on a logo contest and get that out to the schools, more information to follow,” he said. “We are working on some budgeting so we can get that nailed done on actual membership fees and stuff so we can communicate that to our residents. We’ll have another meeting at 5 p.m. Sept. 8 before the next board meeting.”
Under old business, the board approved the Tercha farmland preservation easement and authorized Brian Carl to sign the documents.
Carl said “that this was something that we were working on for well over a year. Kate Tercha donated the preservation rights to Weisenberg Township for 192.674 acres of land, located along Seipstown Road, Adams Road and Tercha Lane at the border of Upper Macungie Township. We are very appreciative to Kate for her generosity and commitment to keeping the family farm undeveloped.”
Also under old business, the board approved the sale of the 1999 New Holland Tiger Mower for $21,300 and the sale of the three-point offset Tiger Flail Mower for $1,300.
Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Chief Justin Oswald during his monthly report said the fire department’s hoagie and ice cream sale is going on until 5 p.m. Aug. 25 and pickup will be 2-6 p.m. Sept. 4 and Community Day is going to be noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 13 at Weisenberg Field, 9504 Bachelor Road, Kutztown.
