Hellertown Historical Society 2025 ‘Talks in the Tavern,’ colonial-themed events set

The Hellertown Historical Society will host a series of historical presentations and special events this fall in the Tavern Room at the Heller-Wagner Grist Mill Complex, 150 West Walnut St., Hellertown.

Talks in the Tavern are 60- to 90-minute presentations on historical, social and cultural topics. All talks begin at 7 p.m. HHS members attend free of charge; nonmembers are invited to join the Society or offer a nominal donation. No reservations required.

Upcoming Talks:

• Aug. 21: Tea, Traditions and Trouble in the Colonies — Robin Marchionni discusses the role of tea in colonial society, including political tensions that contributed to the American Revolution. A display of historic teaware and tea cookies will follow.

• Sep. 18: Spinning Natural Fibers into Fabrics – Doreen Kruk and Barbara Hohenwarter demonstrate fiber spinning and its significance in early American life.

• Oct. 2: East of the Sun – Author and historian Rebecca Price Janney presents on Korean War MASH units. Book signing to follow.

• Oct. 16: What Women Wore 1760-1780 – Robin Marchionni explores women’s clothing and fashion in the colonial period.

• Oct. 28: The Fries Rebellion Movie – Screening of the critically acclaimed short film about the 1799-1800 tax revolt in Northampton, Bucks, and Montgomery counties. Jason Searock, who portrays John Fries in the film, will introduce the story.

• Nov. 11: Saucon Valley’s V-Mail Program – Ken Bloss provides an intimate look at how Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township delivered hometown news to 800 local service members during World War II.

• November 20: The Saucon Rangers – Jake Laubach presents on a local militia that fought for England during the French and Indian War.

Special Public Events:

• Saturday, Oct. 18 | 6-9 p.m. Colonial Tavern Night – Colonial games, live music, and food with reenactors and period-style beverages from Lost Tavern Brewery and local wineries. $35 HHS Members | $45 Non-Members | Open to adults 21 and over | Seating limited

• Sunday, Dec. 7 | 1-3 p.m. Colonial Yuletide Tea – Colonial luncheon and interpretive tea with live harpsichord and violin music by Melanie Zanakis | $35 HHS Members | $45 Non-Members | Seating limited
