Emmaus High School Marching band previews ‘The Emmaus Express’
The Emmaus High School Marching Band held its preview night for the community Aug. 8.
The weather was perfect for the audience to enjoy the hour-long preview.
The 83 members stood trackside to perform the alma mater and the school’s fight song. Drum Major Maycen Bunner, assisted by Krishna Nemani and Abby Perez, directed the students from the stands.
Band Director Spencer Koppenol had each member introduce themselves to the audience.
The band performed selections “Salvation,” and “Seven Nation Army” before taking to the field for the preview of the half-time show.
The half-time performance called “The Emmaus Express” involves storytelling and band members maneuvering train tracks during the performance. The tracks eventually connect the east and west parts of the field.
Koppenol noted the students learned 40 of the 60 pages of music so far, approximately double what they learned last year. The band also sounded like a much larger-sized band. The students returned to the trackside for the final selections of “Hey, Baby!” and “Crazy Train.”
An exhausting week of camp concluded with smiles from the band directors and assistants, the students and their families. Everyone looks forward to seeing “The Emmaus Express” pull into the stadium this fall.
