Get ready for a summer tradition in Upper Milford Township.

The 73rd annual Vera Cruz Homecoming celebration is scheduled noon to 8 p.m. Aug. 17 in Mystic Chain Park, 3718 Main Road East.

Food, including roasted corn on the cob, as well as beverages will be available, according to organizers.

Cake walk competitors should be ready to walk the walk 3:15 p.m.

Entertainment also will include DJ Cesar Rosario broadcasting live from the park 3-5 p.m. as well as shows by The Rehrig Brothers, who perform classic country music, on stage noon to 3 p.m. and the band TimeWhys, specializing in the music of the 1960s and 1970s, performing 5-8 p.m.

If yard sales are more in keeping with your definition of fun, stop by St. Peter’s Union Church, 7863 St. Peters Road, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 16 for the church’s yard sale. The rain date is Aug. 23.

Meanwhile, gardeners may find fun in checking out the fall plant sale at The Seed Farm, 5854 Vera Cruz Road. Shop 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 16 and/or 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 17.

The sale is held rain or shine and features vegetable, herb and native plants that tolerate frost and cold. All of the plants for sale are organically grown without synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or genetically modified seeds.

The Upper Milford Historical Society will host Candace Perry, of the Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center, Pennsburg, 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Upper Milford Township municipal complex, 5671 Chestnut St.

Perry will present a program on the history of German Fraktur, described as a typeface as well as a decorative style.

Upper Milford Township board of supervisors meetings are scheduled 7 p.m. Aug. 7 and 21 at the township building, 5671 Chestnut St.

The Lower Milford Township board of supervisors will meet 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at the township building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road.

Township offices will be closed Sept. 1 in observance of Labor Day.
