Flooding update provided in Macungie
At the Aug. 4 Macungie Borough Council meeting, Borough Engineer Stan Wojciechowski, Barry Isett & Associates, Inc., gave an updated report on the flooding problems at the Fields of Brookside.
Most of the problem from the stormwater flooding has been resolved. The remaining problem with the lack of a completed walkway is to begin resolution very shortly.
The walking path is to begin construction and will be completed by November. This project is important to the stormwater issue with additional drainage system elements being installed.
The Locust Street sidewalk and curb replacement project bid has been approved. Hein Construction, Inc. had the lowest bid of $74,240.85.
The sewer lining project has been approved. The Community Development Block Grant is for $5,000. The remaining amount of $69,723 will be from borough sewer costs.
Macungie Borough’s current software contract was approved with Applications, Inc. It was said the software system with gWorks is awkward and outdated. An attempt will be made for an upgrade but efforts have failed in the past.
Parking restrictions along Main Street (Route 100) remain a topic of conversation. Signage must be approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. There are specified places, around the bump-outs, where council is attempting to make no parking zones.
Another aspect of this is people will leave their cars idling saying they have not parked. Another sign noting “No stopping or standing” is suggested but must be approved by PennDOT. Further investigation is needed as well as approval by PennDOT.
An executive session was held for legal, personal and real estate issues.
