Fullerton American Legion Post 367 Auxiliary will be holding its next meeting 6:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Post home, 609 Fullerton Ave.

Whitehall Active Community Center, 310 Pine St., will host speakers 12:30 p.m. Aug. 19. Light refreshments will be offered.

Bob Hollinger will speak to the group about self-defense for senior citizens. He will inform attendees of ways to fight back or to have a plan of escape to a safe location if accosted by a stranger.

Another speaker, Sara, will address the group about scams targeting seniors and how to recognize them. Today’s scams seem to happen on a daily basis.

For the month of August, St. John’s United Church of Christ, 575 Grape St., will be collecting the following items for the Whitehall Food Pantry: juice, cereal, jelly, pancake mix and pancake syrup.

Any other nonperishable food items, as well as monetary contributions, are always welcome. A shopping cart can be found in the coatroom area by the sanctuary for any donations.
