MusikFest 42 shines
Bethlehem welcomed the 42nd annual Musikfest Aug. 1 with an opening ceremony led by ArtsQuest President and CEO Kassie Hilgert. Fears that the recent rains would continue proved unfounded, and the opening weekend was blessed with relatively cool, sunny afternoons for visitors from across the country.
The ceremony started off with Kendall Medina singing the National Anthem, which was followed by a prayer from Pastor Janel Rice of Central Moravian Church. “We are especially thankful for the gift of music,” Rice said. “Since the beginning of Bethlehem, music has not only named our town but brought us together.”
Local elected officials, including Mayor J. William Reynolds, were recognized during the event. “Our streets are open to everybody,” Reynolds exclaimed, emphasizing the festival’s inclusiveness.
The annual Marcincin Awards were also presented, acknowledging Coca-Cola, EPAWA Weather Consultants, and Kistler O’Brien Fire Protection for their ongoing contributions to Musikfest.
Hilgert closed the ceremony by highlighting the community-driven heart of Musikfest. “Over the next 10 days, we’re going to welcome people from around the world,” she said. “It is a festival run by this community.”
