Former LMFD Fire Chief David Nosal met and became friends with Tex when he ran his barbecue stand “Tex’s Smokin’ BBQ” on PA Route 309 in North Whitehall Township. After closing his food truck business, Tex moved back to Texas, where he died in December 2023. With a strong support for first responders and the military and as a token of appreciation, he included LMFD in his will. Tex’s Smokin’ BBQ was a popular food vendor in the Lehigh Valley for many years, gaining recognition both for its location on Route 309 and for catering various special events throughout the area.
