SP bounces back from first LVL loss
South Parkland remains the top team in the Lehigh Valley League, but the Trojans did have a mild blemish applied to their season when they lost for the first time against Lower Macungie. They quickly got over the loss and have rebounded nicely as the season goes into its final week of games.
Lower Macungie has been playing pretty well lately and surprised South Parkland recently by hanging a 5-2 loss on the Trojans. So far, it is the only loss of the season, and the team hopes to keep it that way.
South Parkland outhit Lower Macungie 8-6 but gave up two unearned runs on an error.
Eight different players collected hits for the Trojans with Ben Weninger and Jaxon Kramer both driving in a run. Nicholas Bowser threw three innings in the loss and allowed a walk and two hits, but it was an error that did real damage, allowing two runs to score in the inning.
Trojans don’t wallow in pity, and the team quickly responded by taking two games against North Parkland to put get right back into the driver’s seat.
In a 12-0 win on Monday night, South Parkland collected seven hits with Brady Derr picking up two of them on his way to driving in four runs. Derr had a single and a double in the win. Bowser also doubled and drove in two runs for the Trojans.
Derr and Bowser split the game on the mound with Derr throwing three innings of one-hit ball and Bowser throwing two innings of one-hit ball for the Trojans.
Tuesday night, the Trojans again beat their northern rivals, this time winning 6-2.
South Parkland took advantage of a leadoff walk in the first inning to put up three runs.
Sawyer Marsteller led off the game by drawing a base on balls and then stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. With Derr at the plate, a fly ball to right field was deep enough to score the run.
Carter Delong and Andrew Klotz both worked walks and moved up a base on a balk. Delong came home on a sacrifice fly by Weninger and a second balk in the inning allowed Klotz to score for a 3-0 South Parkland lead, but the Buffaloes cut the lead down to one run with single runs in the second and third.
Marsteller drew another walk in the fourth and stole second before moving to third on a ground ball. Klotz singled to bring him in and then scored on Weninger’s double to make it 5-2.
Derr drove in the final run of the day in the fifth with a single that scored Julian Santiago, who had singled with one out.
Mack Parsell got the start and threw five innings, allowing five hits and one walk. Bowser and Carter Wanamaker both pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
