LM hand’s SP second loss
With the Legion baseball season winding down, Lower Macungie had a week that mirrored much of its season. The Mustangs picked up two shutout wins, lost in a shutout, and fell just short against North Parkland for another loss, but did pull off a rare play in the game. The end result of the week is that they are 6-6 in league play and 6-7 overall with a loss to Boyertown earlier in the season.
Ryan Hummel continued to dominate on the mound as he threw a complete game against Northern Valley, giving up six hits and no walks in the effort to get the 8-0 win.
Seven players combined for eight hits for Lower Macungie with Aaron Fleetwood reaching base all four times he came to the plate with two singles and two walks, leading to an RBI and three runs scored.
Chase Simmons threw the other shutout, allowing three hits and two walks against South Parkland. The Mustangs have handed the Trojans (12-2) their only two losses on the season.
Hummell picked up an RBI single and Drayce Schmidt drove in the other run with an RBI ground ball for Lower Mac. Fleetwood had another multi-hit game with a single and a double out of the leadoff spot. On the week, Fleetwood was 6-for-12 (.500) with four runs scored and two RBI.
The win over South Parkland came in the second game of a doubleheader that saw the Trojans pick up the win in the opener by a 3-0 score. Two Parkland pitchers held Lower Macungie to just two hits and did not issue a walk in the game.
Against North Parkland, defense was an issue with the Mustangs committing two crucial errors that led to two unearned runs in a 6-5 loss to the Buffaloes.
Fleetwood, Josh Diaz and Dayne Schmidt all collected two hits in the loss.
In the top of the fourth, North Parkland’s Steve Sepko stepped to the plate with runners on first and second with nobody out and popped up to catcher Drayce Schmidt on a hit-and-run play. Schmidt gunned the ball down to Fleetwood at second, who then made a throw to first baseman Dayne Schmidt to complete the triple play.
Lower Macungie was hosting North Parkland Monday in a doubleheader, but the teams played just two innings before rain wiped out the rest of that game and all of the second game.
Lower Mac plays at Whitehall and Northern Valley this week and was supposed to host Southern Lehigh, which folded earlier in the season. A win by forfeit has been added to Lower Macungie’s schedule for that game.
