Pates bounce out of Bash at Beach

Freedom was the only Bethlehem school to take part in this year’s Bash at Beach Tournament held at Whitehall over the weekend.

After struggling to pick up wins during the summer league season, the Pates went 0-2 in the double elimination tournament this time.

Freedom lost to Bangor 49-27 in their opener on Friday and then saw Easton end their ride with a 52-35 defeat.

Head coach Joe Stellato knows the summer can play havoc with player schedules and is confident in what his program can bring when they’re all available.

“It was a challenging off-season with scheduling conflicts due to vacations, AAU commitments, and other sports,” said Stellato. “As a result, it was tough getting our full roster together for games. That said, it created a great opportunity for some of our other guys to get valuable playing time and experience.”

The Pates will get back into summer league action this week when they take on Whitehall on Tuesday, as they search for their first win of the summer.

“While the win/loss column didn’t reflect our efforts, we were highly competitive when we had our full group available,” said Stellato. “I’m confident we’ll be in a great position this coming winter.”

Parkland came away as Big School champs for the second year in a row, knocking off Wilson West Lawn 63-52 to take home the crown.

Salisbury won the Small School Division title with a 59-58 win over Southern Lehigh.
