Hornets’ golden season ends

Emmaus High School boys volleyball players can hold their heads high after a successful 2025 campaign under second-year head coach Jonathan Wilson.

The Hornets ended the year 21-2 overall and 12-0 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, winning both the conference and District 11 championships.

The season ended in the first round of the PIAA tournament to a team that gave Emmaus its only two losses of the season, Governor Mifflin, the third-place team out of District 3.

The Mustangs, who took down the Hornets in straight sets during the regular season on April 25, won the state playoff match in five sets, by scores of 25-23, 22-25, 24-26, 25-18, 15-10, on Tuesday, June 3 at Emmaus High School.

“I’m super proud of the guys,” Wilson said. “I’ve only been here for two years. Some of these players have been here on the varsity roster for four. Their work and their commitment to the program has paid off. I give all the credit to them.

“I think some people give me way too much credit for this. Emmaus has been successful, and it will continue to be. We’re 100 percent happy to have that EPC and that district title, and we hope to do it again. We want to be a program that’s successful on and off the court.”

In a back-and-forth state tournament match, Mifflin did just enough to come out as the victor.

“We gave them a little space to come back,” said Wilson. “Any team at this level, you’re not going to be able to do that. Volleyball’s super momentum based. So, when we got maybe a little bit more timid from the serve-receive line, especially with one of their best servers back there, it burst the way open for (Governor Mifflin’s) momentum. They’re an emotional team. Everybody is. They’re going to ride that emotion, and they capitalized on it.”

Emmaus will graduate seven seniors, including Jude Boyle, Brayden Dang, Gabe Dressler, Hadi Hirji, Colin Holden, Jackson Holden and Lucas Mondin.

Mondin led the attack this past season with 227 kills and added 115 digs. Colin Holden finished with 167 kills and a team-high 103 blocks. Miles Boulrice tallied 133 kills and 17 aces. Ben Skekel led the team with 676 assists and 143 digs.

“They’re the main drivers of our culture,” Wilson said of the senior class. “They set the bar when it comes to effort, commitment and play on the court. They were an amazing senior class. To turn the page on next season, I’m excited for the guys coming back and seeing what they can do.”
