Coplay Borough Council, at its June 10 meeting, approved the Lehigh Valley Emergency Services Hazard Mitigation Plan resolution, a requirement in the event funding is needed after a disaster. The plan includes both Lehigh and Northampton counties.
According to the county’s summary of the resolution, “The 2024 Lehigh Valley Hazard Mitigation Plan outlines a data-informed strategy for reducing the risk associated with natural and human-caused disasters for residents of Lehigh and Northampton counties. Hazard mitigation planning is a critical tool for reducing the loss of life and property resulting from natural and human-caused hazards.
“One fundamental principle of hazard mitigation is that investments made before a disaster will significantly diminish the need for post-disaster emergency response, repair, recovery and reconstruction. By implementing mitigation practices, communities can bolster their resilience, which enables residents, businesses and industries to recover swiftly in a post-disaster environment,” according to the county summary.
In other business, council approved the borough fire department’s request to hold a coin toss from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 29 at Second and Chestnut streets. An earlier coin toss was planned but needed to be rescheduled.
Council went into executive session for “personnel and litigation,” according to the meeting agenda.
After, council adopted resolution 1526, amending regulations for firearm use at borough parks. The resolution states the amendment does not limit or regulate the lawful possession or use of a firearm.
Council will next meet for a workshop July 1 and for a regular meeting July 8. Both are held 7 p.m. at borough hall, 98 S. Fourth St.
