North Catasauqua: Annual small Town USA Carnival continues through June 14

The 19th annual North Catasauqua small Town USA Carnival runs through June 14 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St. The carnival runs 6-10 p.m. each night.

Highlights include food, games, rides and live music 6:30-9:30 p.m. in the band stand. The concert schedule features Third Hand Trio June 12, Waitin’ on Sundown June 13 and Ricky Smith and The Crush June 14.

Special-priced ride wristbands will be available Thursday and Saturday nights as family nights. For more information and details, visit the carnival Facebook page — North Catasauqua small Town USA CARNIVAL.

The zoning hearing board will hold a meeting 5:30 p.m. June 12 for a special exception hearing and a request for variances at the property located at 1001-1003 Second St. The plan will propose a 20-resident sober living facility.

Additionally, 1134 Howertown Road will be discussed regarding a proposed business change.

Hearings are held in the basement-level meeting room at borough hall, 1066 Fourth St. The meeting is open to the public.

Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua, 210 Pine St., Catasauqua, is holding a food drive, set for 10 a.m.-noon June 13 in the church parking lot. Nonperishable food items will be accepted to benefit the Catasauqua Area Food Bank.

Drive through to donate your items and church volunteers will help to unload your contributions.

The Rev. Eric Gruber, longtime pastor of St. John Fisher Roman Catholic Church, has been assigned to St. Joseph Parish in Summit Hill by the Allentown Diocese. The new assignment is effective June 17.

The church Marian Guild will host a farewell dinner for Gruber 5-8 p.m. June 14, following the 4 p.m. Mass, at the church at 1229 Third St. Stop by the church hall during this time to say goodbye, thank Gruber for all he has done for the church and wish him well on his new assignment.

In lieu of gifts, there will be a card shower. Anyone wishing to bake something for the event is asked to bring items to the church hall before the 4 p.m. Mass.

The Friends of the Public Library of Catasauqua group is hosting a Father’s Day breakfast June 15 at the library, 302 Bridge St. Reservations are required for the 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. seatings.

The menu includes breakfast casserole, bacon, sausage, pancake bar and assorted beverages. There is a cost, but children under age 5 eat for free.

To make a reservation, call the library at 610-264-4151, email catasauquapl@cliu.org or stop by the library during regular hours — 2-7:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays; and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays.

The next borough council meeting will tentatively take place 7 p.m. June 16 in the basement-level meeting room at borough hall. Summer borough council meetings are subject to change or cancellation for the months of June and July.

The meeting will be a hybrid meeting, with both in-person and virtual options. Visit northcatasauqua.org for the access code to view the meeting virtually.

Registration is open for the Pop Up and Play summer program, run by Suburban Family North YMCA.

The program is open to children in kindergarten through fifth grade and runs 9:30 a.m.-noon Mondays to Fridays from June 16 to Aug. 1.

Wiffle ball is planned in the afternoon.

The program is open to 40 children, with sign-ups for North Catasauqua residents first and then Catasauqua residents if space is available.

The park afternoon wiffle ball program is scheduled for 1-3 p.m. Mondays to Fridays June 16-Aug. 1 on the basketball court at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St. There is no program the week of July 4.

Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua is planning a free community lunch 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. June 16 at the church. The free community lunch is given out to folks in the community with food insecurity or those who could use a helping hand.

The church is also accepting donations for the Roughie Pantry. The pantry is set up to “love our school-aged neighbors.”

The pantry is currently accepting shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, body wash, tampons, sanitary napkins, etc. Collection bins are located at the church entrances.

The North Catasauqua small Town USA summer concert series returns June 18 at the park, 701 Grove St. Joey and the T-birds will perform 6:30-8:30 p.m. on the band stand.

The concerts are presented by North Catasauqua Recreation Committee.

Enjoy the “doo wop” sounds of the 1950s and rock-n-roll of the ’60s.

Don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 122 Union St., Catasauqua, will hold its annual block party 6-10 p.m. June 19 and 20 and 5-10 p.m. June 21. Come out and enjoy children’s games, bingo in the air-conditioned parish hall, basket raffles and a bake sale.

Your favorite foods will be available, as well as steak/cheesesteak sandwiches, sausage sandwiches, turkey barbecue, cabbage and noodles, potato pancakes, funnel cake and more.

D.H. Productions will entertain Thursday and Friday. Sons of Izzy will be there all evening Saturday.

This event is held rain or shine. Feel free to bring your own chair and find a spot in the grass lot.
