Two Parkland tennis pairings competed in last week’s District 11 doubles tournament.
The Trojans’ Kevin Yao and Manav Patel were seeded fourth in the tournament and won two matches before falling to the eventual champs.
Patel and Yao won their opening match by a 6-0, 6-3 score and posted a 6-2, 6-4 win in the quarterfinal round.
In semifinals the Trojan duo met up with Emmaus brothers Nick and Chris Stone, who knocked Yao and Patel out of the tournament, 6-4, 6-2.
The Trojans’ Jack Chu and Jacky Zhang were also eliminated by the eventual champs.
Seeded ninth out of 16 doubles teams in the field, Chu and Zhang beat the eighth-seeded team 6-4, 6-4 in the first round before facing the Stones in the second round and losing 6-1, 6-1.
The Stones beat Freedom’s Noah Rodburg and Eric Wu in the title match, 6-3, 6-2. Rodburg was on the losing end of two district title matches as he finished runner-up to Parkland’s Derek Yao in the district singles tournament a week earlier.
Parkland qualified for the District 11 team tournament as the No. 2 seed and will compete for that title this week.
