Trojans look toward EPC playoffs
With one game remaining on its regular season league schedule, the Parkland baseball team was in position to host an East Penn Conference first-round playoff game.
With just Wednesday’s game against Emmaus left on the schedule, the Trojans were 13-5 overall and 12-3 in the EPC. That put them a game behind Liberty (13-2), tied with Freedom (12-3) and a half-game ahead of Stroudsburg (12-4) in the race for league playoff seeding.
The top eight teams qualify for the league tournament and the top four teams host first-round games, which are scheduled for Thursday with semifinals Monday at DeSales University and the title game Wednesday, May 14 at DSU.
In recent games, Parkland beat Dieruff but lost to Central Catholic last week.
In a 7-0 win over Dieruff last Thursday, May 1, Sawyer Marsteller pitched a complete game and struck out six batters over seven innings while walking just one and allowing four hits.
Marsteller also went 2-for-3 with a run scored in the win. Mack Parsell led the Trojan offense against Dieruff, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
In an 8-4 loss to Central Catholic Friday, Parkland had a 2-0 lead after one inning but the Vikings chipped away with a run in the second then took the lead with three more in the fourth inning.
When Parkland tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth inning, Central answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning.
Brady Derr went 2-for-3 for Parkland while also reaching base on a walk and scoring a run in the loss. Will Dobil was 2-for-4 against the Vikes.
