Tiger boys lax battles for postseason position
There is still a lot of jockeying for playoff positioning to be done in the District 11 Class 2A boys lacrosse rankings. Northwestern Lehigh is right in the mix, ranked as the second seed but with a couple of teams not far behind. It gets interesting with the Tigers hosting one of those teams Thursday when Southern Lehigh visits New Tripoli.
A pair of recent wins have helped Northwestern as it downed Moravian Academy 13-7 and then beat Northampton 11-6 the following day.
Against Moravian Academy, Kendall Wikert exploded for six goals and an assist in the win and Tyler Kaas contributed four goals of his own.
The Uricchio brothers were the ones setting up many of the goals as Braydon Uricchio finished with four assists and Logan Uricchio notched two. Michael Lagowy scored two goals, and Braxton Lakatosh had a goal and an assist in the win.
In goal, Dane Kauker made 10 saves for Northwestern Lehigh.
Northwestern (9-6) plays its final home game Thursday against Southern Lehigh (9-7) before finishing with road games at Saucon Valley (2-11) and Moravian Academy (8-6).
Allentown Central Catholic (15-3) will be the top seed in 2A and the Tigers are just ahead of Southern Lehigh for the second spot.
Central Catholic and Northwestern have met in the last two district finals with the Tigers winning their first district championship in the first meeting and then falling to the Vikings in last year’s final.
