Softball team prepares for district playoffs
The Parkland High School softball team concluded the 2025 regular season and will now set its sights on the postseason.
The Trojans went 2-2 last week. After defeating Central Catholic earlier in the week, the Trojans were shutout 3-0 by Whitehall last Wednesday, April 30, and then defeated Dieruff 13-0 in five innings the next day. In the regular season and home finale this past Monday, Parkland fell to Emmaus 15-2 in five innings.
In the game with the Zephyrs, Whitehall scored a run in the third, fourth and fifth innings that decided the game and shutout the bats of Parkland. The Trojans finished with four hits, compared to 10 for Whitehall, led by two from Elizabeth Pinkham. Emma Kushner and Addison Fritzinger each had a hit.
In the victory over the Huskies, Parkland scored in every inning, including two in the first two and then four in the third and five in the fourth to put the run rule into effect. The Trojans outhit Dieruff 14-1, led by three hits from Kushner, who also had two RBIs and scored a run. Chelsea Dietrick, Amelia Dawson, Aubrey Wilson and Molley Heckenberger all finished with two hits, with Dietrick contributing three RBIs. Scerena Reed totaled a hit and three RBIs.
Wilson allowed just one hit and struck out five batters in the five innings to earn the win inside the circle.
The game with the Hornets was pretty much over as soon as it started as they put up nine runs in their first at-bats in the top of the first inning and then cruised the rest of the way.
Parkland scored its two runs in the bottom of the second inning and finished with three hits, one each out of Ami Patel, Pinkham and Maria Moore, with Pinkham adding an RBI.
Parkland, which is now 9-8 overall and 8-7 in the conference, just missed out on the conference tournament, but qualified for the District 11 6A tournament, which will begin in about two weeks.
