Hornet softball caps regular season with five-game win streak

The Emmaus High School softball team finished the 2025 regular season with wins its last three games, all in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.

The Hornets ended the regular season on a five-game win streak.

They defeated Dieruff 18-3 in four innings last Tuesday, April 29, followed that with a 4-1 victory in the home finale against Whitehall and then took down Parkland 15-2 in five innings this past Monday afternoon.

In the win over the Huskies, Emmaus had big innings of five runs in the second and nine in the fourth to send the game into the mercy rule early.

The Hornets outhit Dieruff 18-2 and the Huskies committed eight errors.

Brianna Gitski went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored three runs. Morgan Schwab, Sadie Haefeli, Abigail Derr and Haleigh Gigliotti finished with two hits each. Sydney Bennett and Sarah Longbons had two RBIs apiece. Mari Eiswerth split time inside the circle with Amanda King and earned the win, not allowing a hit.

In the victory against the Zephyrs, Emmaus took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning and then scored two more in the fifth and one in the sixth.

The Hornets didn’t allow a run until the top of the seventh and Eiswerth shut them down quickly thereafter, picking up another win. Schwab and Eiswerth both went 2-for-3. Avery DeFanti, Avery Shank and Haefeli each recorded an RBI.

The game with the Trojans was pretty much over as soon as it started as the Hornets put up nine runs in the first inning and then cruised the rest of the way. Bennett, Schwab, Haefeli, Eiswerth and Derr all finished with two hits with the latter two contributing four RBIs each. DeFanti had a hit and two RBIs. Eiswerth earned the win inside the circle, allowing just three hits and two runs, striking out four.

Emmaus, which concluded the regular season at 16-3 overall and 13-2 in the conference, will open the EPC playoffs as the two seed and host the seventh seed Thursday in a quarterfinal round matchup. The semifinals and championship game are scheduled for next Monday and Thursday nights at Patriots Park in Allentown.
