Bears beat EHS in EPC final
The Emmaus High School girls lacrosse team earned a trip to the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference championship game after an important victory over Easton in the semifinal round.
The Hornets were outmatched in the final, losing to top seed Pleasant Valley 19-1 last Tuesday, May 13. It was their fifth consecutive second place finish in the conference tournament.
Three days later the Hornets opened play in the District 11 3A Tournament and defeated rival Parkland 12-8 in the quarterfinal round Friday night at Memorial Field.
Emmaus scored three of the game’s first five goals to take a 3-2 lead after the opening quarter. The Hornets then took advantage of the game in the second quarter, scoring four goals and not allowing one on the defensive end to go up 7-2 at halftime.
They continued that momentum in the third quarter outscoring the Trojans 4-1 to go ahead 11-3 heading to the fourth quarter and were able to ride out the rest of the time for the victory.
Brooke Peterson led the way offensively with four goals. Sarah Gross had a hat trick and both McKenna Guzick and Taylor Younker tallied two goals with Guzick adding an assist. Rylie Poll rounded out the scoring with a goal. Abby DiComes recorded three assists and Kate Newhard contributed one. Devin O’Neil finished with six saves in net.
Emmaus, which improved to 13-8 overall, advanced to the semifinal round and a rematch with the top seed, Pleasant Valley, a game played Monday night.
