Guest View: It is important to support law enforcement, first responders

U.S. Congressman Ryan Mackenzie, R-7th, representing the greater Lehigh Valley, recently wrapped up National Police Week and started off EMS Week by honoring our police and first responders. He recently stopped by Cetronia Ambulance Corps to drop off coffee and doughnuts for local EMS workers before joining Bethlehem Police for a ride-along.

“Our local police and first responders are on the front lines of public safety and public health,” Mackenzie said. “Hearing directly from the men and women who keep us safe guides my work in Washington, especially in my position on the House Committee on Homeland Security, and I’m looking forward to continuing to work on their behalf. As we conclude National Police Week and begin EMS Week, I’m proud to stand with them and to thank them.”

Mackenzie recently helped to pass several pieces of legislation that support local law enforcement like the LEOSA Reform Act and the Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act.

“The legislation that was passed through the U.S. House of Representatives helps us to meet our commitments to the men and women who protect our communities,” Mackenzie said. “These bills will ensure that more members of law enforcement have the means to protect themselves and others while traveling, and it gives lawmakers the tools we need to better understand the threats posed to our local police. I’m looking forward to continuing to work alongside law enforcement and first responders in the greater Lehigh Valley to hear their stories and meet their needs.”
