Coplay: Coplay Garden Club to meet May 29

Coplay Garden Club will meet 7 p.m. May 29 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St. The group meets the last Thursday of each month.

Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., has its summer concert series set.

Upcoming Friday night concerts include Stereotype May 30, Video Gaze June 6, Smith Compound Band June 13, Sons of Izzy June 20 and Castaway Band June 27. Gates open 5 p.m., and the kitchen will open 5:30 p.m. Bands play until 10 p.m.

The Wednesday acoustic concerts are 6-9 p.m. The schedule includes Larry Werner and Madalyn Rayo Duo June 4 and Kyle Yankowy of Video Daze June 18. The kitchen will be open.

Wednesday night performances at Stephen J. Burker Memorial Gazebo, North Second and Chestnut streets, will continue with James Supra June 11 and Third Hand Band June 25. Concerts are held 6-9 p.m.

The borough’s Parkway Pool opens for the season June 14. The pool will be open noon-7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

St. John’s Lutheran Church is planning a sandwich pickup lunch June 14. Drive-thru pickup is 10-11:30 a.m.

The menu includes a choice of ham and cheese or turkey and cheese, a bag of chips, small bottle of water and dessert.

The meal is for preorders only, and the deadline to order is June 6. Call Karen at 610-653-2816.

Coplay Saengerbund is celebrating its 108th anniversary Stiftungsfest celebration 2:30 p.m. June 22. The event is open to the public.

The day begins with singing by the Saengerbund and guest choruses — the Reading Liederkranz, Lancaster Hobbychor and Franklinville Maennerchor. The Emil Schanta Band entertains after the choruses.

Wear your German outfits such as dirndl, lederhosen, vests, hats, etc. There will be music, food, drink and dancing.

Public works Director Paul Boyle has announced the borough received a grant-funded street sweeper. Public works will be sweeping streets throughout the summer.

Call the borough office at 610-262-6088 to schedule pickups for sofas, mattresses (plastic encased), chairs, dressers or other large items. There is a limit of two per year at no charge. Also, there will be no tire recycling during 2025.

Coplay Food Bank, located in the lower level of the municipal building, is open 8:30-10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month.

If unable to attend the scheduled Tuesday morning time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928 to make other arrangements.

The food bank needs coffee, spaghetti sauce and noodles, canned pasta, rice pouches and non-sweetened dry cereals. Monetary donations are always accepted.
