LVECU awards outstanding high school seniors scholarships

Members of the Lehigh Valley Educators Credit Union held its annual meeting in the Parkland High School cafeteria recently.

A highlight of the meeting was the presentation of scholarships to outstanding seniors in Lehigh Valley high schools.

There was a change in this year’s scholarship awards – they were increased from $1,000 to $2,000.

Applicants must be seniors in their respective schools, members in good standing of the LVECU and enrolled as a full-time student in an undergraduate program, minimum 2-year community college, trade or technical school to qualify.

They must also submit a 500-word essay on one of two themes: What or who most influenced your decision to pursue your field of study, or what does success mean to you and do you measure it in your own life?

High school recipients included: Benjamin Curtis, Emmaus, Cassandra Hager, Palmerton Area, Garet Hill, Parkland, Hannah Kern, Emmaus, Cameron Kubinsky, Salisbury, Katie Miller, Highland View Academy, Aliyah Nothstein, Lehighton Area, Jane Pennabaker and Cara Thomas, both from Northwestern Lehigh and Alexander Williams, Allentown Central Catholic.

Members of Girl Scout Troop 8133, Northampton, gave a presentation about the importance of preventing wildfires in our region.

The title of the presentation was: “It’s Your World – Change It!”

Following the meeting, members and guests were treated to breakfast served by food service employees of the high school.
