Jenkins brings home golds
All season long, Catasauqua head track coach Kyle Rusnock worked his team to hit their stride during the postseason.
After the Colonial League meet, the Rough Riders appeared to reach their goal. The Roughies came away with some medals along with impressive performances.
“We had a great league meet and came away with some hardware,” beamed Rusnock. “The kids performed very well and many had their personal bests.”
Junior Hailey Jenkins brought home gold in the 100 and 200, crossing the line in the 100 in 12.11 and in the 200 in 25.36. Hamaad, her brother took fourth in the 200 in 22.68.
Fellow junior Manny Bolmer brought back a silver in the long jump in 22-11. Bolmer’s jump was a new school record. The Roughies’ girls’ 4 x 100 relay team recorded a fourth with a finish of 50.61, while the boys’ 4 x 100 relay team also was fourth in 44.08.
Junior Frankie Pujols was fourth in the 200 hurdles in a time of 41.84, and senior Jon Cordon- Pinto was sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 10-9, and was eighth in the 1110 hurdles, clocking a 16.81.
Other top 10 finishers in their events were senior Florenni DeJesus-Bido, eighth, 300 hurdles; senior Alyssa Baker, ninth, shot put, 31-4.25; and junior Julia Harth, ninth, long jump, 15-9.5.
“We had a great overall meet,” said Rusnock. “We will use this meet and the results as a stepping stone toward the district meet this week.”
