The Seed Farm hosts annual sale May 10 and May 11

The Seed Farm welcomes plant lovers to its annual spring plant sale 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 10 and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 11 on the farm’s campus, 5854 Vera Cruz Road.
The event is held rain or shine.
More than 200 varieties of vegetables, herbs and flowers will be available for purchase.
All are locally grown plants nurtured without use of synthetic chemicals or pesticides.
Check The Seed Farm website for a list of plants at the sale. The “Dragon’s Tongue” bush bean, “Thanos” eggplant, Dr. Wyche’s Yellow” tomato, the “Giant of Italy” parsley and “Wicked Ghost” pepper sound particularly intriguing to yours truly.
A rain barrel workshop will be offered during the sale 11 a.m. to noon or 1-2 p.m. May 11.
There is a cost for registration, which includes a 55-gallon drum and necessary hardware.
Penn State Master Watershed Stewards will lead the workshops.
Participants will gain practical knowledge, such as how to connect their barrel to a downspout as well as dip into topics such as stormwater management.

In keeping with the spirit of environmentally-friendly best practices, please note summer hours at the Upper Milford Township yard waste drop off center continue through Nov. 30.
Upper Milford Township residents may drop off yard waste noon to 4 p.m. Mondays, 3-7 p.m. Wednesdays, 8 a.m. to noon Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.
The center is closed Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The drop off area is behind the township garage and accessed from Church View Road.
Items eligible for drop off include grass, leaves and branches, which must be kept separated and unloaded at the proper location as indicated by signage at the site. Branches eligible for drop off are limited to 4 inches in diameter and no longer than 8 feet.
The drop off site is restricted to township residents. The site is not open to lawn maintenance or landscape businesses, according to the township newsletter.
On May 29, Dana Bila is scheduled as guest speaker at the meeting of the Upper Milford Historical Society 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township municipal complex, 5671 Chestnut St. The program is titled “Unraveling History: Textiles and Quilts in the 18th and 19th Centuries.”
Come early to browse the society’s archives and exhibits. Doors open 6 p.m.
In the run up to The Seed Farm Spring Plant Sale, Lower Milford Township residents who enjoy gardening may want to stop by the Southern Lehigh Library, 3200 Preston Lane, Center Valley, 6:30 p.m. May 7 when The Coopersburg Gardening Club hosts the program “Companion Planting.”
The program is open to gardeners of all levels and registration is not required.
Participants will learn “what plants to grow together to provide optimal results,” according to organizers.
On May 14, the Friends of the Southern Lehigh Public Library hosts Evenings with Friends featuring the program “Felton and Friend” about Paul Miller’s partnership with his Seeing Eye dog, Felton.
There is a cost.
Miller will talk about getting matched with and meeting Felton, their training together and more.
Also, please note the “Anything Goes” art show at the library continues through June 27. Many of the featured artworks are available for sale and a portion of the proceeds benefit the library.

According to the job announcement, “candidates should be available to work up to 40 hours per week. Candidates must be 18 years of age or older and possess a valid PA driver’s license. CDL Class B desired but not required.”
Work will include operating a tractor with boom flail mower, street sweeper, small trucks and other equipment as needed and lawn care maintenance to township grounds including mowing and weed whacking and additional duties.
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, according to the website.
The Lower Milford Township board of supervisors will next meet 6:30 p.m. May 15 at the township building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road.
The Upper Milford Township board of supervisors will next meet 7 p.m. May 15 at the township building, 5671 Chestnut St.
Township offices in both municipalities will be closed May 26 in observance of Memorial Day.
