Lynn Twp. accident claims 3 lives
Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio reported three people died as result of a crash which occurred May 4 at Route 309 and Gun Club Road in Lynn Township.
Buglio said his office was notified to response to this crash at 3:01 p.m.
The Lehigh County coroner said Vannity I. Colon, 21, of Allentown and Israel Medina, 19, of New York, New York, were pronounced dead at the scene. Jeffrey Pichel, 61, of Fountain Hill, died Monday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital.
Buglio said in a May 6 news release, Colon, Medina and Pichel all died from blunt force injuries due to a motor vehicle collision and he ruled the manner of their deaths an accident.
According to State Police, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Sunday afternoon, Troopers from Troop M, Fogelsville, were dispatched to the area for the report of a three-vehicle motor vehicle crash.
State Police say upon investigation, it was determined a 2013 Hyundai Accent, operated by a 54-year-old female from Allentown, was driving northbound on State Route 309 and crossed over into the southbound lanes of travel and struck a 2021 Jeep Compass operated by a 30-year-old female from Fountain Hill.
The third vehicle initially reported was not involved in this crash.
The Hyundai Accent had three occupants in the vehicle while the Jeep Compass had two occupants.
The operator of the Hyundai Accent was treated at the scene by Cetronia Ambulance Corps personnel and transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for her injuries.
Both passengers of the Accent, Colon and Medina were pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.
The operator of the Jeep was also transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital by Cetronia Ambulance Corps.
According to State Police, Pichel, who died on Monday morning May 5 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, was a passenger in the Jeep.
During the crash investigation, Route 309 was closed from Blue Mountain Road to Route 895 in Snyders while police investigated and traffic was detoured on State Route 309 at Gun Club Road and Mountain Road/Mosserville Road.
This crash remains under investigation.
In addition to the Lehigh County Coroners Office and State Police Fogelsville Patrol Unit investigating this crash, Troop M Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit, Troop M Forensic Services Unit, Lehigh County Special Operations Unit and the Lehigh County District Attorneys Office are assisting with this investigation.
