William J. Holmes, 97, of Mertztown, died April 18, 2025, in Lehigh Valley Hospital — Cedar Crest. He was the husband of Elizabeth G. (Pisciotta) Holmes. Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late John and Lucille (Martin) Holmes.

He honorably served his country in the Navy in the Pacific Theater and the Philippines during World War II and the Korean War.

He began his working career as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, followed by working as a security guard at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Macungie police officer and retired in 1992 as a security guard for Kraft Foods.

He attended Bethany Church, Allentown and was a member of the Macungie VFW.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth; sons, Christopher and his wife, Renee and Brian and his wife, Lana; grandchildren, Samantha, Ryan, Austin and Marlee; great- grandchildren, Evelyn and Sebastian.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. June 1 in Bethany Church, 1208 Brookside Road, Allentown. Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus is handling arrangements.
