Trojans start season with win over Allen
So far through the first week of the 2025 regular season, the Parkland High School softball team has experienced both the highs and lows of what a season can bring. The Trojans won their opening game via shutout, but then were blanked the next two games.
In the home and season opener last Tuesday, March 18, Parkland defeated Allen 15-0 in four innings in the first Eastern Pennsylvania Conference game of the season. Two days later, the Trojans fell to Freedom 3-0 and ended the week losing to Valley View in six innings in a nonconference game Saturday.
In the victory over the Chicks, Parkland jumped out on top early and often with eight runs in its first at-bats and then added two runs in both the second and fourth innings, with three in the third to end the game early via run-rule.
Allison Hunsberger led the lineup with a four-hit day and both Emma Kushner and Addison Fritzinger totaled two hits with the latter scoring three runs and adding an RBI. Danica Clemmer finished with three RBIs and each of Anna Belletieri and Molley Heckenberger had two RBIs.
Ami Patel, Amelia Dawson, Aubrey Wilson, Scerena Reed, Maria Moore, Jinnelle Estevez and Elizabeth Pinkham all recorded an RBI. Hunsberger earned the win, striking out eight while not allowing a hit.
In the game against the Patriots, the teams had four scoreless innings before Freedom scored a run in the final three frames. Parkland finished with two hits, coming from Reed and Moore, while the Patriots recorded five.
Valley View got on the scoreboard early with a three-run top of the first inning, added one in the fourth and then put the game away with six runs in the sixth. The Trojans tallied five hits, but made four errors. Moore finished with two hits, while Hunsberger, Fritzinger and Belletieri all contributed one.
Parkland has two conference games this week as they were at Whitehall on Tuesday and then at Pocono Mountain West on Friday. The Trojans begin next week on the road with a game at Northampton on Tuesday.
