Schaffer shatters 100-meter dash mark

The Northwestern boys track and field team improved to 6-0 last week with a 96-54 win over Saucon Valley. The Tiger girls team, which improved to 5-1, beat the Panthers 110-40 and saw a long-standing record fall in the 100-meter dash.

Sophia Schaffer ran the 100 in a school record time of 12.20 seconds, eclipsing the mark of 12.5 that was held by three former Tigers, including Sally Spaar (1988), Tiffany Cougle (1998) and Lauren Anderson (2014).

Schaffer won the event against Saucon Valley while also taking first place in the 200. Carsyn Van Norman also took first place in two girls events last week. She won the 100 and 200.

Paige Bissell (800), Devon Heinly (1600), and Rosalia Nestor (3200) added distance wins, while Taylor Langley (long jump) and Adisan Kistler (shot put) contributed in the field.

On the boys side, Shane Leh swept the hurdle events, winning both the 110 and 300 hurdles. Benjamin Bachman claimed the 400, and Brady Furman earned a win in the 800. Xander Giandomenico led a sweep in the 3200, while Gavin Nelson (high jump) and Ethan Kaschak (pole vault) also collected individual victories.
